Final battle report turn 3

Territory: 13 – cautious advance
Attacker: Necrons
Defender: Slaanesh Daemons & Orcs
Scenario: Basisboek – Maelstrom of War – Contact lost
Necron Victory


(Lang report, maar mag wel aangezien de Campaign met deze laatste battle in de laatste beurt werd beslist!)

Overlord Imhotep the Relentless knew that the pressure was on. His orders were to invade and retake the territory that had previously been conquered on the Slaaneshi deamons and taken back again by their Orc allies. But a few days after the start of his invasion, when he was already deep into enemy territory, all communications with the Necron HQ went down. The last intel he received, told of a defeat in battles against the Eldar and the Orcs, resulting in the loss of 2 territories. His invading army was now in the middle of enemy territory, cut off from all information, with an unknown number of hostile forces doubtless advancing to encircle and annihilate him…
Imhotep knew he had only one option: march towards the nearest Orc stronghold as soon as possible and re-establish communications with all due haste. This would enable him to call in reinforcements and prevent the enemy from doing the same, guaranteeing the conquest of the region.

Marching towards the enemy position and overviewing the battlefield from atop his Command Barge, Imhotep realized he was about to begin the engagement at a distinctive disadvantage: the Orcs were already on the march and had secured half of the sites of tactical importance. While a huge mob of Orcs and Grots secured the ruins in the center, a Trukk made towards his right flank, with the Tankbusta’s within opening fire on and destroying half a Scarab unit. On top of this, a huge Warboss materialized right in front of the Scarabs screening the Necron center (dankzij “da Jump”) and charged in, smashing over half of the Scarab unit to pieces. The monster bellowed in rage and pain when the Scarabs’ self-destruction protocols kicked in, severely wounding him.

Imhotep made a countermove by sending his Ghost Ark (full of warriors) and a small unit of Immortals to his right, joining them himself. His subordinate triggered his Veil of Darkness and arrived there as well. The concentrated firepower of the Necrons caused many casualties among the Grots but, being more afraid of their Warlord than of the “metal men”, held. The isolated Warboss in the center was taken care of by the Gauss canons fired by Imhotep’s Command barge and more self-destructing Scarabs.

Overall, Imhotep was disappointed with the results of his countermove: only 1 dead Warboss and most of the battlefield objectives still in enemy hands. On top of this, he was unable to counter the Orcs’ next move: the Orc mob in the center advanced rapidly towards his right, while at the same time a even bigger mob teleported in behind the Necrons, virtually surrounding them. The central Orc mob charged in and were able to damage the Ghost Ark and to lock the 2 units of Immortals into combat. Luckily for the Necrons, the Orcs who teleported in had a limited interpretation of their order to “get behind enemy lines” and stayed where they were (failed charge)!

“Enough of this! Finish them!”, Imhotep snapped, and called in all his reinforcements: 2 full units of Immortals with Tesla carbines, each led by an Overlord, materialized from a Translocation Crypt into the Necron center. At the same time, the warriors disembarked from the Ghost Ark, which, in turn, flew away and took up position to the rear. Then, the disciplined Immortals disengaged from close combat and Imhotep gave the order to open fire. Both Orc mobs were obliterated by a storm of Gauss and Tesla fire. In one stroke, Imhotep had cleared his backfield from enemies and destroyed half of the Orcs on the battlefield. But he had made no progress whatsoever towards his most important target: securing the battlefield objectives… (na beurt 2 is de score van de Necrons nog altijd 0!).

Irritated but ultimately unshaken by these losses, the Orc Warlord made his next move. Another big unit of Boyz teleported in at the Orcish rear, next to the Weirdboy, forming a strategic reserve. The remaining Grots formed up around their Warboss. The other Weirdboy, in the grip of a battle frenzy, moved forward and destroyed some Necrons with a psychic blast. Finally, the Tankbusta’s in the Trukk opened fire on the Ghost Ark. They were able to score an impressive number of hits on the Necron vehicle (straf effect van “Dakka Dakka”) but to their astonishment and disappointment, most were dissipated by the Ark’s Quantum Shielding (nog straffer effect van “improved quantum shielding”!).

“The entire army shall advance! No mercy!”, Imhotep shouted. Making full use of their Translocation Beams (Nephrek units gaan de volle 6” als ze advancen, en nog een 1” extra dankzij “My Will Be Done”!), the whole army formed a huge phalanx that quickly advanced as a relentless tide of living steel, putting out an enormous amount of devastating fire power under which the Orcish army seemed to simply melt away. The Trukk, the Tankbusta’s, the Grots, the Weirdboy: all disappeared from the battlefield’s surface… The Necrons were finally making some progress! (maar: Necron score na 3 beurten nog steeds 0!)

The Orc Warlord was convinced he could stem the Necron tide and signaled the remaining Weirdboy, who used “Da Jump” to send the reserves forward. Making ready to charge, the Orcs first opened fire, with the Warboss using his Kustom made Prox Buzz Bomb. Already worked up to a fuming battle frenzy, the Orc Warlord didn’t seem to notice that the number of Necron casualties was disappointingly low and, bellowing “Chaaaaaarge” from the top of his voice, crashed into the Immortals right in front of him. The thin green line of Orcs behind him did notice it, however. Finding themselves hugely outnumbered by the black-and-red metal tide bearing down on them, their courage left them and they refused to charge (failed charge)…

The Ork Warlord smashed half a unit of Immortals to pieces and was able to pin another one down in close combat but, by doing so, could only postpone the inevitable: the Immortals in combat disengaged, the entire army advanced again and secured the center of the battlefield. The Orc Boyz paid the ultimate price for their cowardice and were wiped out to the last, while their Warlord, completely surrounded, was mercilessly gunned down.

Knowing he only needed to prevent the Necrons from securing the entire battlefield, the Weirdboy, now in command, used “Da Jump” to concentrate the last unit of Boys in the tall ruins around him, while ordering the 2 surviving Grots to take cover. (Score na beurt 5 van de Orks: 2-7 voor de Orks!)

It was to no avail: once more the Necrons used the combination of their Translocation Beams and the tactical brilliance (“My Will Be Done”+ “Wave of Command” + “The Phaeron’s Will”) of their Overlords with devastating effects. While the Necrons secured all but one of the battlefield objectives, the Grots were gunned down and the remaining Orks’ morale broke under their own losses. Realizing it was all over, the remaining Weirdboy decided to call it a day and he and the few remaining Orks ran away from the battlefield. (Dankzij – eindelijk! – een reeks goede objective kaarten, scoorden de Necrons in hun allerlaatste beurt 6 punten en wonnen daarmee de battle!).

Als Bart gisteren de laatste battle van deze beurt gewonnen heeft, komen hij en Tom uit op 'n totaal van 20 punten, incl. bonuspunten (geen, aangezien ze dan 7 territoria zouden hebben), en Wim en Sergey OOK op 'n totaal van 20 punten, incl. bonuspunten (2, aangezien ze dan 9 territoria zouden hebben). In dit geval zouden jullie nog 'n beslissende battle moeten spelen om te bepalen wie deze campaign wint (zie campaign regels)!
Bart won dus (net) niet en Necrons winnen de campaign. MAAR: we kunnen er misschien nog een epische battle aan plakken (of zelfs 2) om te bepalen wie "de planeet" controleert?

Voorstel: Necrons bieden alliantie aan met de 1e geïnteresseerde, om in 1 battle de andere 2 fracties te elimineren. Die battle is qua punten verdeeld in verhouding tot het aantal gebieden die beide kanten controleren. Bij winst, krijgt de met de Necrons geallieerde fractie het gebied van de tegenstander met de meeste gebieden. En dan gaat het tussen de Necrons en hun voormalige "bondgenoten" (ah ja, ge denkt toch niet dat de Necrons hun wereld gaan delen met buitenstaanders, zeker?!). Als de Necron-alliantie mocht verliezen, vechten de andere 2 winnaars het uit. (en Necrons gaan dan maar weer "ondergronds")

Gelegenheid tot 1-2 grotere Multi-player battles!

Interesse? Jazeker. Pakweg ‘n hele dag tijd? Wordt moeilijk. ‘N zaterdag waarop zowel m’n vrouw als m’n dochter uit werken gaan, is voor mij nog de beste kandidaat. Komt zowat om de 2 weken voor. Is dat voor jullie ook haalbaar?

Interesse? Jazeker. Pakweg ‘n hele dag tijd? Wordt moeilijk. ‘N zaterdag waarop zowel m’n vrouw als m’n dochter uit werken gaan, is voor mij nog de beste kandidaat. Komt zowat om de 2 weken voor. Is dat voor jullie ook haalbaar?
Genoeg vooraf afspreken en dat lukt wel voor mij.
Anders stel je een aantal zaterdagen voor en dan kunnen de andere spelers kijken wie kan?

Zaterdag 19 oktober zou gaan, van 10u 's morgens tot 18u. En in principe elke andere zaterdag (da's om de 2 weken, dus 2 november, 16 november, enzovoort...) op dezelfde uren. Gaat dat voor jullie?

19/10 is ok. 2/11 niet. 16/11 weer wel.
Vooraleerst een dikke proficiat aan Wim en Sergey! Ze hebben consistent goed gespeeld en verdiend gewonnen.

Goed idee van de afsluiter. De 16de november (en later) zou voor mij moeten lukken.

PS: Met het risico op mosterd na de maaltijd. Mijn tekstje (voor 4 punten) is gepost. Aangzien de campage afgelopen is, weet ik niet of het nog opportuun is om het overige tekstje te posten (ik ben mijn nota's kwijt :oops: ).
